Tempo provides a simple solution that finally makes electrified industrial heat reliable and cost-competitive.

Our founding team—led by Professor James Klausner at Michigan State University, along with Nima Rahmatian, Kelvin Randhir, and Alessandro Bo—discovered and developed a proprietary thermochemical storage metal-oxide (TSM) material that enables a new class of low-cost thermochemical energy storage.
The materials science breakthrough that changed everything
Tempo began with a materials science breakthrough at Michigan State University in 2015. Professor James Klauser and his team discovered a magnesium-based material that could store and release heat over 1,000 times without degradation.
Breakthrough Energy Ventures backed the technology, followed by Khosla Ventures and Prelude Ventures. Veteran CEO Pasquale Romano joined next, fresh from building ChargePoint into a publicly traded EV infrastructure company. He quickly assembled a leadership team from aerospace, technology, and energy powerhouses.
Today, Tempo holds the core IP covering thermochemical energy storage—and is working with global customers across cement, chemicals, metals, food & beverage, and other industries to electrify industrial heat at scale.
